The Peot

The Torah does not require anything special about using the hair. The kohanim it cut every two weeks. They were forbidden to cut their hair in honor of the gods, as they did the peoples of antiquity, but was cut off in mourning for the dead, or as a sign of distress or humiliation for sin committed.

In Deuteronomy 14:1 we read: "... you shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead."
